Thanks to the experience of Maestro Giovanni Pelizzoli -- a world famed frame builder- and the talent of a young student of Samsung Maestros Academy -- Alice Biotti -- Samsung Smart Bike came alive. This is the first bicycle that protects the rider thanks to its safety components, controlled by a Samsung Smartphone. It comes with an innovative bicycle-frame that neutralizes the most dangerous vibrations to the human body, 4 laser beams to alert other drivers that the bike is coming along, an integrated GPS system to tell local authorities which routes should be immediately turned into real bike-lanes. This is Samsung Smart Bike, the perfect mix between future and heritage, presented with great success during the 2014 Milan Design Week.


Human-Powered Helicopter: Straight Up Difficult

It's difficult to build a working four-rotor helicopter, when the engine is a person with a power of only some hundred watts. But one team of engineering students is trying to do just that.
Students from the University of Maryland are chasing one of aviation's last milestones: the Sikorsky Prize. The American Helicopter Society (AHS) has promised $250,000 to the team that can build a human-powered helicopter. All it has to do is hover for a minute, reach a height of 3 meters, and stay in a 10-meter box.

Why bicycles do not fall

Arend Schwab is professor in theoretical and applied mechanics from Delft University of Technology.
He runs the bicycle mechanics lab and teaches mechanics.

Whenever Arend comes up with an assignment for his students, the hallway of the faculty is crammed with all sorts of very strange objects that resemble bikes only slighlty. Considering bicyles constitute 40% of the Netherlands traffic making it the bicycle capital of the world, his work is very interesting not only for the dutch people but anyone who ever rode a bicycle.

Amongst his fields of interest are: Multibody Dynamics, dynamics of flexible multibody system, finite element method, legged locomotion, speed skating, and bicycle dynamics. In particular the treatment of contact phenomena like in collisions and rolling (non-holonomic constraints) is his special interest. He has given academic talks related to his area of expertise in various universities all over the world.

Swedish engineering design students Anna and Terese took on a giant challenge as an exam project. Something no one had done before. If they could swing it, it would for sure be revolutionary. The bicycle is a tool to change the world. If we use bikes AND travel safe: Life will be better for all.
